PRIMITIVE EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Winnicott published many articles during the war, several in the periodical, New Era in Home and School, and all reflecting his activities as psychiatric consultant to the evacuated children’s scheme in Oxfordshire. He also published letters and papers in The Lancet and the British Medical Journal on physical treatments such as pre-frontal leucotomy, and on electric shock treatment to which he was opposed. In 1939 he began broadcasting to parents on the BBC about their young children and about the difficulties associated with the return of evacuated children after the war.
